BELLAIRE, Mich. (AP) — A judge on Wednesday ordered state prosecutors to release certain documents used as evidence against several men charged with aiding a plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.Eric VanDussen, a videographer and freelance journalist, filed a lawsuit after the attorney general’s office rejected his public records request. He is working on a documentary about political extremism. The state claimed the records would interfere with law enforcement proceedings and possibly spoil an upcoming trial. But Court of Claims Judge James Redford noted that the exhibits were already introduced in “open court, in a public hearing, in a public trial, in a public courthouse.”The records can’t be shielded under Michigan’s Freedom of Information Act, Redford said.Related ArticlesCrime and Public Safety | Judge rules retrial of ex-Philadelphia officer in 2020 protest actions should be held outside city Crime and Public Safety | Michigan trooper who ord...Leader of Ecuadorian crime gang moved to maximum-security prison days after candidate’s killing

GUAYAQUIL, Ecuador (AP) — Authorities moved the leader of one of Ecuador’s most powerful gangs into a maximum-security prison Saturday, three days after the assassination of a presidential candidate who had denounced threats from the feared criminal.President Guillermo Lasso said the relocation of Los Choneros leader Adolfo Macías, alias “Fito,” was meant “for the safety of citizens and detainees.” The gang boss was moved out of a jail with lighter security into a maximum-security prison in the same large complex of detention facilities in the port city of Guayaquil. “Ecuador will recover peace and security,” Lasso tweeted. “If violent reactions arise, we will act with full force.”About 4,000 soldiers and police officers raided the jail where Macías was being held Saturday and seized weapons, ammunition and explosives. Corrections officials released images of the raid showing several prisoners, including Macías, who is serving a 34-year sentence for drug trafficking, organized crime...Jude Bellingham scores on Real Madrid debut in 2-0 win at Athletic Bilbao. BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Jude Bellingham enjoyed a dream debut for Real Madrid after the England midfielder scored his team’s second goal in a 2-0 win at Athletic Bilbao in their Spanish league opener on Saturday.Wearing the No. 5 of Madrid great Zinedine Zidane, Bellingham started the match while Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, the veterans he is tapped to take over from, watched from the bench at San Mames Stadium. His goal was not a work of beauty like so many crafted by Zidane, and he perhaps had a bit of good luck to guide it into the net. A left-side corner kick by David Alaba found Bellingham unmarked in the area, where he knocked the ball with one touch down onto the turf, only for it to bounce high and sail into the net over Spain goalkeeper Unai Simón.“If you shoot you have a chance to score,” Bellingham said. “I didn’t connect well with the ball, but I was fortunate that it went in and it came off.”The 20-year-old Bellingham jogged to the endline and raised his arms...Partido Comunista de Venezuela dice que Maduro asaltó su junta directiva

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Bryce Young was 4 of 6 passing for 21 yards in his NFL preseason debut as the Carolina Panthers lost 27-0 to the New York Jets on Saturday. The No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft played three series and the Panthers picked up just one first down with the 2021 Heisman Trophy winner under center against a Jets defense that rested its starters.Young didn’t get much help from his offensive line as he was hit on three of his seven drop backs, including a blindside shot to the center of his back from 293-pound defensive tackle Solomon Thomas on his first pass attempt. Young’s lack of size was the biggest concern when he entered the league, but the 5-foot-10, 204-pound quarterback bounced back to his feet after the hit.Aaron Rodgers’ debut with the Jets will have to wait for another day as coach Robert Saleh held out the four-time league MVP for the second straight preseason game. The 39-year-old Rodgers hasn’t played in a preseason game since 2018 with Green B...Reds-Pirates rained out. The game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader Sunday
