ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- New York State lawmakers have introduced a bill meant to make it easier for law enforcement to issue AMBER Alerts. The bill would allow parents or legal guardians of a missing child to request an early activation of an AMBER Alert if they think their child was abducted. Law enforcement must meet specific criteria before an alert, including having a reason to believe the child was abducted and is in danger. The guidance for issuing AMBER Alerts has received new attention after a young girl was kidnapped from Moreau Lake State Park in September.Police did not issue an alert until the next day. Police have defended their response and said they were following the state's guidance. Organizers of the Schenectady Holiday Parade are establishing a new veteran's division in this year's parade to recognize and honor those who have served the United States. A woman who was sexually assaulted by a homeless man in Long Beach is distraught at county prosecutors' decision to not file felony charges against the suspect.Following the man's arrest, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office only filed a misdemeanor charge, which the victim said was a stark disparity from the severe nature of the crime.The attack happened on Oct. 20 at 2:15 p.m. in front of Village Market on the 140 block of Linden Avenue.Surveillance video shows the victim, Rebekah Pederson, walking on a sidewalk near Linden and Broadway when the suspect, Miguel Avila, 30, suddenly stands up, exposes himself and grabs her from behind.She falls onto the ground as Avila appears to pull up her skirt and thrust himself against her. As the Highlands Fire in Riverside County continues to burn an estimated 2,500 acres with only 15% containment, some residents of the small town of Aguanga, east of Temecula, where the fire started are just now starting to cope with the loss of their homes. ALAMEDA — Police here have arrested one of two men suspected of following a family of seven from a nearby shopping center to their Alameda home and robbing them at gunpoint, court records show.The suspect, a 29-year-old Oakland resident, was charged Oct. 25 with second degree robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Police say they’re still working to identify the second robber.The man, woman, and their five children were followed to their Alameda home by two men, who police say were seen at a nearby Target where the victims had been shopping. (KRON) -- Suspects are at large after an armed robbery Wednesday afternoon in Piedmont, the Piedmont Police Department said in a Facebook post. The two victims were robbed around 3:25 p.m. near the intersection of Park Way and Monticello Avenue. The suspects were seen fleeing in a 2016 Grey Nissan Maxima (license plate 9FKP693) stolen out of Oakland, police said. They were both armed with black semi-automatic handguns and demanded the victims' phones, wallets, watches and keys. Boarded-up San Jose home shown in realtor’s viral video sold for $780K The suspects are described to be Middle Eastern or dark-skinned men between the ages of 18 and 22 wearing black hoodies and black masks.
