A woman critically injured in an April collision in downtown San Jose died of her injuries after three weeks in a hospital, according to San Jose police.Police responded to reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle around 11:49 a.m. April 9 in the area of East Santa Clara and North 11th streets. Police said that the pedestrian was in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by the driver of a Toyota Camry, which had been turning left onto East Santa Clara Street from North 11th Street.The woman was taken to a hospital, where she died Monday, according to a police news release. (KRON) -- An arrest warrant has been issued for an Oakland Police Department officer who has been charged with perjury and threatening witnesses, among other things. The officer, Phong Tran, is a 46-year-old man. (KRON) -- The Hayward Police Department has announced the arrest of the suspect in a Jan. 4 homicide that left one dead. The arrest was made on April 6, officials said.Officers arrested 53-year-old suspect Anthony Bergstrom for the murder of 53-year-old victim Jesse Nieto of Hayward. The homicide happened during the early morning hours of April 4. Officers responded to reports of a shooting on the 24000 block of Park Street. CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico (AP) — The head of Mexico’s immigration agency was arraigned on charges Tuesday that he failed in his responsibility to protect those in his custody when 40 migrants died in a fire at a border detention center last month.Federal prosecutors said that there are video recordings showing that private security guards in the facility had asked immigration agents permission to release the migrants when the fire started, but were denied. Prosecutors presented evidence that Francisco Garduño, the head of the Mexican Immigration Institute, was responsible for the safety of country’s immigration facilities and should have closed those that did not meet safety requirements. A migrant allegedly started a fire inside the Ciudad Juarez detention center March 27. Security cameras inside the facility showed smoke quickly filling the cell holding 68 male migrants, but no one with keys attempting to release them.
